Become a Friend of St. Nicholas’

The hub of village life in Thames Ditton for nearly 900 years, our Grade 1 listed building needs your support. Care and protect your heritage. 

We’re delighted to launch the Friends of St Nicholas’ to help preserve the wonderful historic church building at the heart of our community. You do not need to be a churchgoer to become a Friend. As well as being an active place of worship, this Grade I listed building has a whole range of historic features of interest. So, if you just care about the character of our village and want to help to keep an important and historic building at the heart of village life, become a Friend!

Restoration and Maintenance

Over the past few years, with the help of generous benefactors and huge support from our local community, a Restoration Appeal to members of the congregation and community has raised more than £200,000 to ensure that the building is in good condition - and we want to keep it that way. Caring for a landmark building is a tremendously expensive undertaking and we need to seek contributions from beyond our worshipping community.

Worldwide Appeal

Visitors from all over the world come to Thames Ditton’s Grade I listed church to see its historic links which predate even the building of Hampton Court Palace - just across the river. Many enjoy coming to the church for special services, for example, at Christmas time, or to celebrate a christening or a wedding with family and friends in a beautiful quintessentially English setting, steeped in history. Thames Ditton’s church dates from Norman times and over the centuries generations of families have worshipped, been baptised, married or held funerals here. Many are buried in our churchyard or have their ashes interred in our beautiful Garden of Remembrance.

HOW IT WORKS

You can help by becoming a regular Friend or by making flexible donations - every donation is important to us, whatever the amount, and will help to secure the future of St Nicholas’ church building. In return we will send you updates and invite you to a growing programme of social and history-based events.

Your donation will be used only to maintain the church building and contents and the fabric of our historic churchyard. It will not be used for worship, gardening or maintenance of other buildings, such as the church hall. The fund will be administered by St Nicholas’ Church PCC and subject to Charity Commission regulations.
