Parish News & Events

Please could Parishioners get any material for weekly News Sheets to the Parish office by Wednesday evenings.

We generally do an update for this web page on Friday evening…. or maybe Saturday morning if webmaster gets home from work  too late!

Our online calendar is set out in the tab “Parish News and Events” - or you can click through to Google Calendar.

Church Hall

The hall is undergoing a major refurbishment this summer, and as a consequence the whole area including the yard at the back is hazardous. Until the work is finished, please DO NOT enter the area without first getting the all clear regarding safety (call Lorna 0208 398 9641). We would hate for there to be an accident. Please be patient – it will be worth the wait! -Wardens

Last week’s or prior news repeated:

Choir practice

Choir practice will be suspended for four weeks in August for the Summer break.  We resume on Thursday August 30 at 7pm.  Reuben.

Garden of Remembrance

There is no official Gardening Saturday during August, so September 11th  is the next  date. More volunteers are desperately needed – please put the date in your diary. Come along any time between 9 am and noon. Tools are provided, and we have a break for tea or coffee. Mary

Ladies Lunch

We are having a Ladies' Lunch on Thursday August 16 at The Marquis of Granby at 12.30pm. All are welcome - please contact Jenny Sherriff on 0208 398 7033 if you would like to come and also if you would like a lift . Thank you. Jenny

Alpha Course

We are planning a new Alpha Course, to run for 10 weeks from September (exact dates TBC). If you haven’t come across Alpha before, please do consider coming - it is a great opportunity to explore the Christian faith over 10 weeks in a relaxed and informal setting. The course sessions begin with a meal and a short talk on some aspect of Christianity, followed by discussion in small groups. It’s entirely free! Talk to Sarb or Andrew if you are interested in coming. We also need people to volunteer to cook.  Sign up sheets at the back of church for anyone interested on any level.

Exploring faith

Jesus said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life.’ These words are an amazing promise. Have you ever wondered what Jesus meant when he said this? If a non-Christian friend asked you this, what would you say? Why not have a coffee/pint with Sarb to chat about Christian things and why Jesus’ claims about himself explain the deepest desires of our hearts.

4 o’clock church

The next 4 o’clock church on Sunday September 16th.

Parents and Toddlers

The group broke up for the long summer holidays on Thursday July 19, and will restart in early September.

Our 10-15 year old group (Follow Me) has now broken up for the summer holidays, and will meet again in September. Watch this space for confirmation of dates!

Nick’s Kids

Please note that Nick’s Kids  will next meet in September.

With the holiday season upon us, the usual pattern of certain services and group activities may be disrupted. Please keep an eye on church notices and the Events section opposite to check times and dates.

Gift Aid/Church Giving at St Nicholas

If you are a visitor or church member who does not belong to our freewill offering scheme and are a taxpayer, it would help us enormously if you could you put your gift to our church in one of the white envelopes found on the pews. Please make sure your full name and address and signature are included as we cannot claim the tax back from the Exchequer without this information  Thank you.

You, dear reader, appear to have scrolled down to the far reaches of this page—so you may be an observant type. If you have noticed any mistakes, errors, omissions—or even howlers, I would consider it a kindness if you were to let me (Martin Perrin -see tab “Contact us, map”), know  - there is a bottle of wine in it for the first person to do so in a month.
