Please could Parishioners get any material for weekly News Sheets to the Parish office by Wednesday evenings.  

We generally do an update for this web page on Friday evening…. or maybe Saturday morning if webmaster gets home from work  too late!

Church choir

We are now practising for the Nine Lessons and Carols service on December 17. If you are interested in singing, please join us on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm in church for choir practice. Thanks, Reuben.

Christmas Fair 

Thank you to everyone who made last Saturday’s Christmas Fair a great success. It was wonderful to see so many families and people from the local community enjoy themselves. We also raised £630!

Tuesday Christmas lunch

On Tuedsay December 19 we will have a special Lunch on Tuedsday from 12:30pm. Sign up at the back of church, or let the parish office know if you would like to come.

Christingle preparation

Can you help prepare our Christingles on Saturday morning December 16? Anytime from 9:30-11:30a.m. Please sign up on the sheet at the back of church.

The Alpha Course

If you haven’t done Alpha before, please do consider coming, and also who you might invite to come with you. Alpha begins with a meal, a short talk on some aspect of Christianity, followed by discussion in small groups, and it’s entirely free. Talk to Sarb or Andrew if you are interested in coming, or have any questions.

Music group

Do you have any musical talents? We are hoping to start a music group to lead our sung worship at the 9:30am service in the new year. If you are interested in getting involved, do please talk to the vicar.

Joel homeless shelter

As many of you know, we have a team of volunteers who help at the Joel homeless shelter in Norbiton, preparing a meal for the guests, and eating together. This used to happen on a Thursday evening once a month, but we have been asked to switch to a Monday evening. If you would like to be part of the volunteer team, do talk to the vicar or Frankie Bell.

Friends of St Nicholas’

We have now launched Friends of St Nicholas’,  which features in the November edition of About Thames Ditton. You can also read about in in a dedicated page on this website: please tell your friends and neighbours.

Christmas Drama 

Chessington Evangelical Church are staging an Evangelistic Christmas Drama on Sunday December 3 at 2pm, with a free hot lunch beforehand at 12:30pm. Please contact Mike Coote if you would like to go so they can cater for you (Michael.coote

Changing our Sunday morning services

From January 2018 we are planning to move to three morning services:

  8:00 a.m. BCP Holy Communion;

  9:30 a.m. Informal service and 

11:15 a.m. Traditional service.  

There is a phamphlet available at the back of church explaining the rationale behind this change, and hopefully answers any questions you might have.

Garden of Remembrance

Saturday December 9 is the next working party. Volunteers are needed to tidy up and put the Garden in order before Christmas. All tools are provided, and we break for coffee at 10:30am. Please just come along!  Mary 0208 398 7307

Wintershall Nativity Play

The Wintershall Nativity Play is on Friday December 15 and tickets are £18 or £9 for children. This year, Linda Lambert at the URC Speer Road is organising the trip, and will need to know numbers (and receive payment please). Please contact Linda directly on 0208 398 1476 or via email

4 o'clock service   

Since last October we have been holding our new monthly afternoon service aimed at families.  The service takes place in the church hall, and is fun, informal, interactive, and has special things such as puppets, a bible story, prayer and worship, and it ends with a meal!  Come along and see for yourself.

Tots Praise 

Tots praise is a fun and lively service with songs, stories, prayers and lots of fun for babies and children up to 5 years old and their carers. This runs on the second Thursday of the month at 9.30 am in St Nicholas Church. Please speak to Katie Traub if you have any queries 0208 224 2880.

Sunday School

Please note that Children’s Sunday School is now held in the Church Hall every third and fourth Sunday in the month during the 10 a.m. service. 



Gift Aid/Church Giving at St Nicholas

If you are a visitor or church member who does not belong to our freewill offering scheme and are a taxpayer, it would help us enormously if you could you put your gift to our church in one of the white envelopes found on the pews. Please make sure your full name and address and signature are included as we cannot claim the tax back from the Exchequer without this information  Thank you.


If you would like to be on a mailing list for News from St Nicholas, just sign up! To sign up, email  – and in the email, just type “yes please, opt-in” in the subject header. No prose necessary in the body of the email. 

 If you are on the electoral roll we would also like to have your email address. This would not only save much valuable time in the office but also make a big saving on postage. Please let the parish office have your details by email.

We will add you to our mailing list for Parish News and may use it for other Parish affairs. However we will NOT sell or distribute parishioners’ email addresses to outside parties.

 If you want to opt out, all you need to do is to email me again at the address with the header Opt Out and we will of course promptly take you off. 


You, dear reader, appear to have scrolled down to the far reaches of this page—so you may be an observant type.
