Parish News & Events

Please could Parishioners get any material for weekly News Sheets to the Parish office by Wednesday evenings.

We generally do an update for this web page on Friday evening…. or maybe Saturday morning if webmaster gets home from work  too late!

Our online calendar is set out in the tab “Parish News and Events” - or you can click through to Google Calendar.

Pray for St. Nicholas

There is an opportunity to pray for St. Nicholas, the various initiatives in the church, the new Alpha course, and the growth of our church. This is a weekly half hour meeting in the Smee room on Tuesday 11-11:30am.  Pray is a key element in all we do, so please come and join us as we ask for God’s blessing.

Last week’s or prior news repeated:

Church organist

As many of you know, Muir Coburn, our long standing organist, will be stepping down at the end of August. We will have an opportunity to say thank you to Muir for his many years of service on Sunday August 27 at our 10am service, and afterwards in the hall.  It will of course be sad to say farewell to Muir, but we look forward to welcoming Reuben Rhuphus as our new organist.  Reuben and his wife Judith, who live in the parish, have sung in the choir, and Reuben has ably led us on the organ when Muir has been away.  Do please pray for Muir, Reuben and their families during this time of change.

Ladies Lunch

We are having a Ladies lunch on Wednesday August 23 at the George and Dragon Pub, Thames Ditton at 12.30pm. All are welcome - please contact Jenny Sherriff  on 0208 398 7033 if you would like to come and also if you would like transport.

The Alpha Course

Following last year’s well attended course, we will be running Alpha again on Monday evenings at 7:30pm starting on September 25. The Alpha course is a great opportunity to explore the Christian faith over 10 weeks.  If you haven’t done Alpha before, please do consider coming, and also who you might invite to come with you. Talk to Sarb or Andrew if you have any questions. We also need people to volunteer to cook.  Sign up sheet at the back of church.

Choir Notice

There are no choir practices in August. Practices will restart in September – details will follow, so please ‘watch this space’.

Family Picnic

There will be a picnic after church on September 3 in the Garden of Remembrance to celebrate the restart of our children’s groups and services after the summer break.  All welcome.

Ephesians Bible study group

Our sermon series this summer is Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.  Paul covers a number of themes in this fascinating epistle.  If you would like   to discuss the bible passage from the previous Sunday, there will be a chance to do so on Tuesday 11:30am-12:30pm in the Smee Room. No need to book, just come along, and stay for lunch afterwards.

Our new curate Sarb Klair

Sunday July 9 was Sarb’s first Sunday at St Nicholas, following his ordinartion as Deacon last Sunday, July 2. Here is a photo of that happy event!

Howlers?

You, dear reader, appear to have scrolled down to the far reaches of this page—so you may be an observant type. If you have noticed any mistakes, errors, omissions—or even howlers, I would consider it a kindness if you were to let me (Martin Perrin -see tab “Contact us, map”), know  - there is a bottle of wine in it for the first person to do so in a month.
